TweetDeck - The ultimate Twitter and Facebook Application

http://www.tweetdeck.com
Guys I just love it! I really do. I even left Digsby(but still use for msn and yahoo) for it. The first wow factor is it's the interface. Its looks so beautiful and well managed. Making groups for seperate stuffs on facebook looks great and is easy to see whats happening.

It is a free application that lets you connect with your Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn Accounts. It is supported by Adobe Air(no wonder how the interface looks) so you will need to install Adobe Air first to your computer which is not a problem because it is automatically downloaded when installing the app.

You can update your status, comment on others, like other comments, upload picture, share links and do almost anything you do on your regular browser based facebook. Try it, you will love it.
Download it from http://www.tweetdeck.co.

AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber, and Facebook all in one place thats Digsby. Before using it i had been using the same old yahoo messenger and windows messenger to chat with my buddies. The separate applications not just take up more space and slow your computer but also slows your working speed. Now having all of them is really a relief. So here's what it does. Straight from its website.

  • Manage multiple conversations with tabbed conversation windows. You can drag tabs out into their own windows for important conversations.

  • Send your friends SMS messages right from the IM window.
  • The InfoBox lets you check everyone's status message and profile just by moving your mouse down the list.
  • Changing your status has never been easier. just one click right on the buddy list!

  • Log conversation history and find the information you need our search-enabled log viewer.
  • And so much more.
Email
  • Manage your Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL/AIM Mail, IMAP, and POP accounts right from digsby.

Personalize
  • Customize digsby with application skins to give it a personal look and feel.
  • Change the way your conversations look with themes – everything from simple AIM-style windows to 3D conversation bubbles.
  • Complete control over the layout of buddies on the buddy list. Change everything from buddy icon size to whether or not to show a snippet of their away message.
  • Sort your buddy list how ever you want! You can organize buddies manually, by status, by service, by name or by log size to place those you communicate with most at the top. You can even choose a secondary sorting method.
  • Customizable notification system lets you choose what events you want to be alerted about and how.
Other
  • Digsby offers complete synchronization between computers and installations. Everything from the skin you chose to your pre-defined status messages follows you from place to place.
  • You can place a widget on your blog, website, or social network profile so you can chat with visitors right from digsby.

Flickr today is most popular photo sharing website. Peoples can upload their pictures and set privacy settings in the pictures for others to view.

The sharing of pictures on Flickr is the the best part of it. The best part is the awesome community around and knowledge that one can get by getting around the photos of various photography groups. While doing this we wished we had the feature of downloading the pictures from the Flickr account and save to a disk. Cursor*10 - Co-operate with yourself

http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/cursor10/
Cursor*10 is a new game in the Flash Games category that will hook you up. At least for 10 minutes or may have unimaginable impact on you. It surely did to me for 10 minutes and then I just could not beat my self. No competitors but you yourself.

In this Flash Game you race against your self, your mouse movements does it all.

You have 10 possible runs using a cursor, to make it to the 16th level of a building. Each run is tracked by the game so the ghosts of your previous clicks are essential for you to unlock certain paths that let you navigate to the top. It may be necessary to sacrifice one run just to ensure that the other cursors can make it up faster. It's a game where you co-operate(oh! better to say co-operate than compete) with yourself.

You need to watch this...

Have you seen the Opera Unite? It really Rocks.

Been long that opera had been recommending me to upgrade my Opera 10 to 10.10. Today I just gave it a go. And holy cow, it was all worth it. There is a new menu on the Panels name "unite". The file sharing feature, Fridge, Media Player, Messenger, Photo Sharing and a WEB SERVER.

The last one caught my eyes. WTF! my computer a server?? Hell Yeah. I cannot get the perfect word to describe the New Opera Unite. Just fabulous, wonderful. The server did worked fine too. I loved this part very much.

I was a little pinched with the media player that when I play a song another song starts to play. Even if I stop it it doesn't stops. And I need to go to the playing song and stop it in there. Must have been a bug but the interface is really good.

Oh sorry not to tell you, the media player plays songs from your computer and can be shared with your friends on Opera(not any others). Also the messenger feature is available to only Opera users. For Yahoo!, MSN would have been a great boon. Anyway no problem with those.

The file sharing feature is also great. I don't know if my computer need to be ON to download the shared file from other computer which I suppose must be. It must be like your computer is a file server now...

There is also a Fridge menu. I could not figure out what it does exactly because till  now I have no friends on Opera. They say its for notes that your friends or family writes for you like "Lunch on 9am". Must be a good application to connect and help friends.

And what is this??? More applications?? There are loads of Opera Unite applications over there. Oh I can't get to them all now. I will be writing about them time to time.

If you have used Opera Unite share with us some worthy applications. I saw the webcam there.

Firefox 3.6 Beta 1 ready for download, with Windows 7 and accelerometer support

The Mozilla 3.6 Beta 1 is ready for download.

The interface has obviously gone through a lot of work, as our first experience showed a remarkable difference in the current FF 3.5 we are running and the 3.6 beta. The start-up from a cold boot has gotten much faster – still not as fast as IE or Google Chrome, but it is no longer a noticeable delay.

There is some more eye-candy in the form of preview panes in the default Ctrl+Tab scrolling. A small preview pane, much like what you would get with Alt+Tab in Windows, shows up with all your tabs in it. Quite handy, but not a feature that wowed us given that other extensions were already doing this.

Windows 7 support
“For those who missed the news, in Windows 7, some applications can now show their tabs directly on the Windows task bar, allowing for easier tab management. On a personal note, I absolutely hate this feature: Applications added tabs to reduce the clutter on the task bar, and Windows now find a way to sneak them in nonetheless!

Opera 10 with... Turbo!!!

http://www.opera.com
Ok you firefox and chrome guys have you heard it or not but probably the worlds fastest internet browser has just got even more faster, by the release of 'Opera 10 with turbo'.
What it has?
* Opera 10 utilizes a new page compression technology that helps Web surfers on 3G or slow Wi-Fi connections browse the Web at “broadband-like” speeds. Opera boasts that Opera Turbo enables the browser to pull pages at 8X faster than its rivals when dealing with slow connections.

*
Opera 10 allows users to resize a browser tab by pulling it down, which shows a thumbnail image of the page. This is a handy tool for power users that keep multiple tabs open at a time, and would like the benefit of “at a a glance” tab identification. These “Visual Tabs” are on top of the browser by default, but can be moved to the sides or bottom.

*
Opera 10 now has a more attractive interface than previous versions.

* Other tweaks include a more flexible Speed Dial bookmarking grid, 51 language spell checker, improved e-mail client (with threaded conversations), Opera Link synchronization, and 40-percent faster page loading over Opera 9.6.

Something Missing?
Still I find some of the big websites like google, windows live mail, even blogger fails to shows the interface as it looks on the firefox or internet explorer.

In this war of browsers opera has lacked to the 5th place. Is Opera 10 worth better? Why not give it a chance, try it.

Skeweezelt - Convert any weblink to a mobile-friendly page

While Opera Mini is a great browser and serves all the required purposes, the problem with having a Windows Mobile interface is that for a lot of applications, links will still open in Internet Explorer by default.

Smartphone users are painfully aware of the shortcomings of IE, the biggest of which is opening a full size Web page.

Programmer John Cody of OmniSoft got tired of going through the same on his handset and decided to create a simple tool that should be put onto every single WinMob phone without a second thought.

The idea is simple: If you're opening any link - be it from an email in Outlook or from an RSS feed - Skweezelt will offer to compress the page to a mobile friendly layout, making it easy on your Internet Explorer.

However, you can still opt to view the original page if you so desire. When you click on a link, the application pops up and asks you whether you want to "Skweezelt". Choosing 'Yes' will perform the appropriate compression, while 'No' takes you to the default page as-is.

Now, installing Skweezelt is a bit of a tricky issue, as there's no CAB fire for the same. It requires a few simple changes in the the Windows Mobile registry, and we advise you do the same only if you're comfortable with it. Additionally, don't forget to back up the registry.

Thankfully you can see the detailed instructions on Omnisoft's forum, and even get replies to any trouble you may encounter.

Still, Skweezelt is definitely worth the one-time installation hassle: The page loads quicker, you save on bandwith, and it's easier to read. It's simply great!

S2V – Flick and View

http://www.ac-s2.com
There’s really not much else to S2V- short for Slide to View- that the fact that it’s meant to emulate the finger-flicking way of picture browsing, as done on the iPhone. Of course, there’s no multitouch support, so the navigation pad is still paramount to zooming in (up arrow) and out (down arrow). Sliding your finger from left to right will scroll through the images in a folder, while sliding from the top of the screen to the bottom at the edges will rotate the pictures. The cool way of viewing picture is here for WinMob users!

ShoZu - Social Network on Mobile Phone!

http://www.shozu.com
These days, it seems like every passing season adds another digit to the megapixel count of cameras on mobile phones. Even the most basic phones come with a VGA camera now. In fact, this has made life quite difficult for people who aren’t allowed to carry camera-equipped phones at their office.

Still, there’s reason so many phones are coming with cameras: it’s that people really like to click photographs.

Also, a lot of camera-touting users are quite Web-savvy, and have accounts on photo-sharing sites, blogs and social networks. ShoZu seeks to be a conduit to easily upload the pictures you click on your cell phone to your online life. What’s more, it’s compatible with almost every handset out there!

Setting it up is a bit of a process, but it’s worth while. For example, let us suppose you have a Flickr account. First, you go over to the ShoZu website, download the application compatible with your phone and install it. The site already supports accounts from a few popular photo sharing services, and Flickr is one among them – saving your trouble of registering all over again.

Run the application and proceed to you camera. Hold it up, click a picture and wait for just a second – there it is! Shozu’s dialogue box pops up, asking if you want to upload the just clicked photo to you Flickr page.

Now if you have multiple services to upload to, you can choose from a quick list that pops up: but if you’re a single service user, then you can even set ShoZu to automatically upload all pictures you click.

Apart from Flickr, it supports Picasa, Photobucket, Facebook, Twitter, TwitPic, Blogger, LiveJournal, Wordpress, YouTube, Friendster, etc. And you can add few email address too.

There are some additions you can make to the photo if you so desire. For starters, basic details can be added to the photo, such as title, tag, description, etc. And if you have a GPS enabled phone, then geo-tagging is supposed by the application.

Honestly, given the wide range of phones and services that it supports, it would be criminal not to have ShoZu installed on your handset.

Microfi Nitrogen MP3 Player

http://code.google.com/p/microfi-nitrogen/downloads/list
After the overpowering of media player by the iphone, someone had to come up with a descent media player which would at least make you proud of having windows mobile. So these guys from Microfi, presented Microfi Nitrogen MP3 player with quickly became one of the most downloaded MP3 player for pocket PCs.

The biggest selling point of the Nitrogen is that it was intended to use purely with one’s fingers. The stylus has hampered Windows Mobile users for too long, especially when it comes to tiny keys on media players. The big fat keys on the Nitrogen ensure that you will always hit what you intended to.

The menu, in fact is what draws you to Nitrogen. It is simple, good looking, and devoid of any delusions of grandeur. Another attractive factor is the speed of the application. Nitrogen opens so fast, it makes you wonder whether it was running in the background all the time. Of course, this could be largely due to its small size, clocking in less than 2MB of storage. And not to forget, those colorful great skins: there are lots of them.

Nitrogen uses the open source MAD decoder for its high-quality MP3 playback, delivering crisp audio. The OGG playback is taken care of by the OVD decoder.

The playlists are very handy, letting you add files with ease and change the order on the fly. The ‘repeat’ and ‘shuffle’ are just icing on the cake.

Nitrogen has a robust equalizer with 10 presets and a customizable option.

The one feature it’s still missing is fast forward and rewind, although Microfi promises he’s currently working on this and should have it figured out soon.

Music on your Mobile Phone - de softwares

It was the Walkman that started it all. The ability to listen to one’s own music while on the move was unheard of before Sony popularized a compact device which let you play your audio tapes – any place, any time.

Then, Apple came along with the iPod and changed the came. Cassettes were out, MP4s were in. The device got smaller, sleeker, friendlier. The next frontier was obviously the mobile phone.

Before the iPhone became a reality, Sony Ericsson and Nokia had already come out with a fair share of mobile phones dedicated to playing back MP3 songs. And the increasing sales of the XpressMusic and Walkman phone series only bolsters the popularity of this medium.

But enjoying a musical experience is much about software as it is about hardware. Sure, with horrible headphones or a output abilities, you won’t ever enjoy your tunes. However, you need a good software that is easy to use, decodes your songs well and lets you relax all the work intuitively. And it has to do all of that while being light and efficient.

KD player
http://www.kdplayer.webs.com
In mobile phone side of things, KD player has been the king of this sector. The program is meant primarily for regular Java based phones, although it will work on most Windows handsets with a screen resolution no bigger than 240 * 320 pixels.

You install the small file less than 150kb and start it up to see a simple interface, homely to users of Sony Erricson. Hit the Menu button and browse to where you have all your songs stored. KD Player will scan the folder and put your tracks in its library for easy access. KD Player supports ID3 tags and also the album artwork added to the ID3 music file can be shown on the screen.

You can also create playlists with KD Player and save them for future use.

The best part, though, is that it can run safely in the background without taking up too much RAM.

On online you can find lots of help, tips and tricks regarding it. You can also find various skins and skin packs to jazz up the looks.

Opera Mobile 9.7 Turbo Beta 1 Released

http://www.opera.com/mobile
Opera 9.7 Turbo, sounds vaguely like a sports car doesn't it!

For those still stuck with Java phones, Opera Mobiles gives the ability to surf an almost complete rendition of the internet. It is almost synonymous with a fast mobile browsing experience, and it's secret?

Opera's own proxy servers which relay the web traffic to you after compressing and resizing images and removing stuff your mobile cant handle anyway. OK, fine, they aren't "secret".

Somewhat strangely this facility had been absent from Opera Mini's elder cousin Opera Mobile. Which is a version of Opera for phones which are a bit... smarter. However Opera Mobile 9.7 will now utilize Opera Turbo servers which will ruthlessly compress away the fat and resize the images to make webpages a fraction of their original size, before sending them to your screen.

Opera has been very successful in dominating the mobile browser market, thats to its unique features and fast speed, and best of all zero cost. With competition from browsers like SkyFire, which provide similar features, however it may need to do better. This will certainly make Opera more attractive to those people using Smartphones but it still need to beat skyfire's fratures such as full support for flash and online video. For those of us still runningjava phones though, Opera Mini is still your best friend.

Mobile Phone Antivirus - Continued

SpyBot Search & Destroy for Mobile
http://www.safer-networking.org/
With mobile phones becoming an everyman’s first point for access to technology, isn’t it just a matter of time before hackers decide to concentrate solely on these? We use banking services through our phone, pay our bills, and access our email, etc, making phones the ideal target for data thefts.

Thankfully, spyware and malware aren’t as ubiquitous on cell phones as they are on computers. Still, there has been an increase in the number of reported threats on handheld platforms and it seems very likely to go up.

One of the best tools to check the threat of spyware and malware on PCs, SpyBot – Search & Destroy, has been launched in SpyBot – Search & Destroy Mobile Editions.

SpyBot Mobile uses a lightweight version of the original software to primarily detect threats on Windows Mobile phones although it also scans some Symbian-based platforms. The possibility of the latter being infected is rare, the company says, but adds that they could act as carriers for malware to infect other phones.

Taking up a mere 2.6 MB of disk space, the installation is smooth and simple for even a layman, and those who have used the PC version of Spybot will find themselves right at home.

Starting the application, the home screen is quite idiot-proof. There’s a ‘Scan’ button at the bottom left, hitting which starts the program. Now, users are advised to be a little patient for about an half an hour, depending on the size of your memory card and the amount of data you have on it. Still, you won’t be running this every day, so it’s a small price to pay for a once in a while application.

Once you are done with the scan, the usual options of Quarantine, Remove, etc, pop up. Perform the appropriate action and you’re good to go!

The program lacks the kind of real time monitoring tool, but it won’t be really needed at the moment, it might be so in the future.

Mobile Phone Antivirus

Virus Threats on mobile phones are increasing. In the past two years, Trend Micro and F-Secure have released several reports - the most notable ones being at the Cellular Telephone Industries Association annual gatherings- that talked of a trend where viruses have been on the rise in cell phones.

The bulk of these viruses were found to be on the two platforms: Windows Mobile and Symbian. Needless to say, antivirus companies from Symantic to Kaspersky were quick to launch several mobile antivirus kits. A free antivirus would not be good enough; think again.

NetQin Antivirus
http://www.netqin.com/
For a waiting to hand in a freeware antivirus from Avg, Avast or Avira, till then NetQin's mobile antivirus package from Chinese firm is possible alternative.

The installation is pretty easy and straightforward, and doesn't take up much disk space. Upon installation, it’ll prompt for an update of the virus definition files, done quickly over your wireless connection.

The first scan will, of course, take a long time and users should be prepared to start it at night, before sleeping. The software claims to dig into the core of each file to scan it and uses battery power effectively while at it – two aspects that have been verified by several reviewers.

Still, if you do start the scan during the day and need to use the phone in between, hit the helpful ‘pause’ button and resume the scan whenever you have time.

What’s more, the software features a great real-time monitoring tool. NetQin is vigilant about any data that is being sent over SMS, MMS, Bluetooth, infra-red, GPRS and other network connections, and claims to detect and block threats effectively.

The smashing part about this program is that apart from Windows mobile and Symbian, it’s also compatible with almost every Nokia phone out there.
